Lisa Liss
"Creating active, passionate, caring students is what my teaching is built around. My students are called Tolerance Kids because we promote and teach Tolerance everyday in many ways. My students are the ones who have had or have, parents in prison, been homeless, experienced severe hunger. This makes them the best ones to offer compassion to others, they have seen and felt issues themselves. If I can teach them to reach out to others, they don’t feel as lost. It gives them a purpose and shows them how wonderful they are.
We love to share our projects and ideas with other teachers. Being a part of the Freedom Writer Teacher world is a great way that we share with others. Anytime we can Rock Your World, we will try to do just that. Last year during April, we created 40 boxes of much needed items for a local youth shelter."
Lisa has welcomed survivors of the Holocaust, published authors, Olympic Champions, celebrities, and legislatures among others. Her students have written plays, developed life-long friendships, and helped the homeless. Teaching 95% poverty students in Sacramento has given her the chance to teach in ways that make a difference. Tolerance is a priority as her students create projects at their school to honor Anne Frank and the 1.5 million children who were killed during the Holocaust. Her education includes a BS from the University of Houston and a Master’s from the University of Texas.
